O'Adam' ! Who is having such a stretch.
Unstable both worlds, hard to fetch.
छोड़ा नहीं ख़ुदी को दौड़े ख़ुदा के पीछे।
आसाँ को छोड़ बंदे मुश्किल को ढूँढते हैं।
Didn't leave the self but ran after God.
Men leave easy, following hard to prod.
ज़बान - ए-होश से ये कुफ़्र सरज़द हो नहीं सकता।
मैं कैसे बिन पिए ले लूँ ख़ुदा का नाम ऐ साक़ी।
This can't be uttered by conscious tongue of a man.
Without a drink, chanting His name, well how I can ?
मैं उम्र भर जवाब नहीं दे सका 'अदम'।
वो इक नज़र में इतने सवालात कर गए।
I could not answer these in life as a whole.
In a look, she posed many questions, their role.
ये क्या कि तुमने जफ़ा से भी हाथ खींच लिया।
मिरी वफ़ाओं का कुछ तो सिला दिया होता।
From faithlessness why did you withdraw your hand ?
For my faithfulness, can't you take some stand ?
हुस्न इक दिलरुबा हुकूमत है।
इश्क़ इक कुदरती ग़ुलामी है।
Beauty is a pleasant governance.
Love is a natural subordinance.
और तो दिल को नहीं है कोई तकलीफ़ 'अदम' ।
हाँ ज़रा नब्ज़ किसी वक़्त ठहर जाती है।
O 'Adam', there's no other trouble in heart.
O yes, at several times pulse stops in part.
शौक़िया कोई नहीं होता ग़लत।
इसमें कुछ तेरी रज़ा मौजूद है।
None is wrong just for fun.
Your consent for it is in run.
'अदम' रोज़-ए-अजल जब क़िस्मतें तक़्सीम होती थीं।
मुक़द्दर की जगह मैं साग़र-ओ-मीना उठा लाया।
O'Adam' ! While fortunes were distributed by Him.
I picked bottle and cup in place of fate, on whim.
जिस से छुपना चाहता हूँ मैं 'अदम' ।
वो सितमगर जा-ब-जा मौजूद है।
One whom I want to elude.
Everywhere is that tyrant, the dude.
हुजूम-ए-हश्र में खोलूँगा अद्ल का दफ़्तर। अभी तो फ़ैसले तहरीर कर रहा हूँ मैं।
For crowd, office of justice I 'll open on day of doom.
Till then, judgements are being serialized, making room.
जब तिरे नैन मुस्कुराते हैं।
ज़ीस्त के रंज भूल जाते हैं।
When your eyes simply smile.
Life pain is forgotten in a while.
बात का ख़ून क्यों करें नाहक़।
आपको फ़ुर्सत-ए-जवाब कहाँ ?
Why for nothing, should I murder the plea.
You have no time to answer me.
ऐ ग़म-ए-ज़िंदगी न हो नाराज़।
मुझ को आदत है मुस्कुराने की।
O life pain, don't be upset a bit.
To smile is part of my habit kit.
फिर आज 'अदम' शाम से ग़मगीं है तबीयत।
फिर आज सर-ए-शाम मैं कुछ सोच रहा हूँ।
O 'Adam'! Since eve ' my state is in pain.
Today I am thinking since eve' again.
वो परिंदे जो आँख रखते हैं।
सब से पहले असीर होते हैं।
The birds that can view from a far.
Are the first to get behind bar.
सो भी जा ऐ दिल-ए-मजरूह बहुत रात गई।
अब तो रह रह के सितारों को भी नींद आती है।
Night is way ahead, O wounded heart sleep.
Now from time to time, even stars are asleep.
हौले हौले वस्ल हुआ।
धीरे-धीरे जान गई।
Gradually love meet was on
Slowly this life was gone.
किसी ने हाल जो पूछा तो हो गए ख़ामोश।
तुमारी बात हम अपनी ज़ुबाँ से क्या कहते
When one asked my state, I could silence don.
How could your talk, I state on my own.
देखा है जिस निगाह से तूने सितम-ज़रीफ़।
महसूस हो रहा है मैं ग़र्क-ए-शराब हूँ।
O tyrant ! You saw me with such look.
I thought that a lot of wine I took.
ख़ुदा ने गढ़ तो दिया आलम-ए-वजूद मगर।
सजावटों की बिना औरतों की ज़ात हुई।
Though God had created human creed.
Cause of decoration was woman indeed.
शिकन न डाल जबीं पर शराब देते हूए।
ये मुस्कुराती हुई चीज़ मुस्कुरा के पिला।
No frown on forehead, while serving wine.
With a smile, serve smiling thing divine.
छूप छुप के जाता है अभी मेरी गली में।
इक रोज मिरे साथ सर-ए-आम चलेगा।
One who comes stealthily in my lane.
One day he 'll walk with me in open, sane.
थोड़ी सी अक़्ल लाए थे हम भी मगर 'अदम'।
दुनिया के हादसात ने दीवाना कर दिया।
I had a little sense O' Adam' with me.
Mishaps of the world took it for lunacy.
सवाल कर के मैं ख़ुद ही बहुत पशेमाँ हूँ।
जवाब दे के मुझे और शर्मसार न कर।
Questioning you I am repentant enough.
Replying don't drown me in shame trough.
गिनते हैं लोग गर्मी-ए-बाज़ार देख कर।
सर्कार देख कर मेरी सरकार देख कर।
People fall with this market heat.
Please look well, look well and neat.
मुझे तौबा का पूरा अज्र मिलता है उसी सायत।
कोई ज़ोहरा-जबीं जब पीने पर मजबूर करता है।
I get benefit of abstinence in a hard time to think.
When a starry forehead, compels me to drink.
ऐ दोस्त मोहब्बत के सदमे तन्हा ही उठाने पड़ते हैं।
रहबर तो फ़क़त इस रस्ते में दो गाम सहारा देते हैं।
The grief of love is born alone, no substitute.
The guide helps only for a while on this route.
शायद मुझे निकाल कर पछता रहे हैं आप।
महफ़िल में इस ख़याल से फिर आ गया हूँ मैं।
Probably you repent my eviction, want to unwind.
I am back in the meeting with this thought in mind.
दिल अभी पूरी तरह टूटा नहीं।
दोस्तों की मेहरबानी चाहिए।
Heart isn't yet broken totally.
Needed is a little friends' mercy
जिन से इंसाँ को पहुँचती है हमेशा तकलीफ़।
उन का दावा है कि वो अस्ल ख़ुदा वाले हैं।
Those who to humans always cause grief.
They are real men of Lord, is their belief.
बढ़ के तूफ़ान को आग़ोश में ले ले अपनी।
डूबने वाले तिरे हाथ से साहिल तो गया।
Go forward to embrace the tempest even more.
O drowning man ! You have anyway lost the shore.
मैं मय-कदे की राह से होकर गुज़र गया।
वर्ना सफ़र हयात का काफ़ी तवील था।
I traversed through the tavern route.
Or else, life's journey was vast, astute.
बारिश शराब-ए-अर्श है ये सोच कर 'अदम'।
बारिश के सब हुरूफ़ को उल्टा के पी गया।
That rain is shower of wine from heaven, to be frank.
'Adam' reversed Urdu alphabets of rain and drank.
कहते हैं उम्र-ए-रफ़्ता कभी लौटती नहीं।
जा मैकदे से मेरी जवानी उठा के ला ।
It's said that never comes back the period of youth.
Go and bring from the tavern, my set up of youth.
तकलीफ़ मिट गई मगर अहसास रह गया।
मैं ख़ुश हूँ कुछ न कुछ तो मिरे पास रह गया।
Feeling has remained, the troubles have gone.
I am happy, something is left with me to moan.
मुस्कुराहट है हुस्न का ज़ेवर।
मुस्कुराना न भूल जाया करो ।
Ornament of beauty is smile.
Don't forget even for a while.
इक हसीं आँख के इशारे पर।
कारवाँ राह भूल जाते हैं।
Guided by a mischievous beautiful eye.
Caravans lose track without a sigh.
साक़ी मुझे शराब की तोहमत नहीं पसंद।
मुझको तिरी निगाह का इल्ज़ाम चाहिए।
O wine girl ! I don't like wine's fake blame.
On your eyes I would love to lay claim.
इजाज़त हो तो मैं तसदीक़ कर लूँ तेरी ज़ुल्फ़ों से।
सुना है ज़िन्दगी इक ख़ूबसूरत दाम है साक़ी।
If you allow, mayI verify from your tress.
It's heard, life is a beautiful net, a mess.
वो मिले भी तो झिझक सी ही रही।
काश थोड़ी सी हम पिए होते।
We were hesitant even when we met.
Why didn't I drink a little before the set.
शायद मुझे निकाल कर पछता रहे हैं आप।
महफ़िल में इस ख़याल से फिर आ गया हूँ मैं।
Evicting me, you are repenting as an afterthought.
I have returned to this meeting with this thought.
दिल ख़ुश हुआ है मस्जिद - ए-वीराँ को देख कर।
मेरी तरह ख़ुदा का भी ख़ाना ख़राब है।
Looking at deserted mosque, a thought just rode.
Delapidated like mine is also God's abode.
ज़रा इक तबस्सुम की तकलीफ़ करना।
कि गुलज़ार में फूल मुरझा रहे हैं।
Your little smile needs some tilting.
Inside the garden, flowers are wilting.
बस इक क़दम उठा था ग़लत राह-ए-शौक़ में।
मंज़िल तमाम उम्र मुझे ढूँढती रही।
Just one false step on the road of desire.
Goal searched for me lifetime, entire.
मैं बद-नसीब हूँ मुझको न दे ख़ुशी इतनी।
कि मैं ख़ुशी को भी लेकल ख़राब कर दूँगा
I am Ill-fated, don't give me pleasure spell.
I am sure, I 'll spoil the pleasure as well.
साक़ी ज़रा निगाह मिला कर तो देखना।
कमबख्त होश में तो नहीं आ गया हूँ मैं।
O wine girl look at me in the eye.
Did I turn conscious from so high ?
मरने वाले तो ख़ैर हैं बेबस।
जीने वाले कमाल करते हैं।
Those dying are in compulsive spell.
Those alive, simply really excel.
जिन को दौलत हक़ीर लगती है।
उफ़ वो कितने अमीर होते हैं।
Those who consider, wealth is nothing.
Well, they are really rich, something!
मय-कदा है यहाँ सुकून से बैठ।
कोई आफ़त इधर नहीं आती।
It's tavern, sit peacefully, don't be terse.
From this route, calamity can't traverse.
हद से बढ़ कर हसीन लगते हो।
झूठी क़समें ज़रूर खाया करो ।
You look beautiful beyond every limit.
Make false pledges for sure every bit.
कश्ती चला रहा है मगर किस अदा के साथ।
हम भी न डूब जाएँ कहीं ना-ख़ुदा के साथ।
With such a lovely style, he is rowing the boat.
May be we also drown with one rowing the boat.
बाज़ औक़ात किसी और के मिलने से 'अदम'।
अपनी हस्ती से मुलाक़ात भी हो जाती है।
O'Adam' ! At times when you meet someone.
Get acquainted with yourself, the only one.
पहले बड़ी रग़बत थी तिरे नाम से मुझको। अब सुन के तिरा नाम मैं कुछ सोच रहा हूँ।
Earlier I was attracted a lot with your name.
Now listening your name, it's a thinking game.
ज़िन्दगी है इक किराए की ख़ुशी।
सूखते तालाब का पानी हूँ मैं।
Life is a pleasure on hire.
I am pond water, drying entire.
लोग कहते हैं कि तुम से ही मोहब्बत है मुझे।
तुम जो कहते हो कि वहशत है तो वहशत होगी।
People say that I am in love with you.
If you say it's wildness, then it's true.
सब को पहुँचा के उनकी मंज़िल पर।
आप रस्ते में रह गया हूँ मैं।
Making all reach the goal.
I am still on way to goal.
आँख का एतबार क्या करते ?
जो भी देखा वो ख़्वाब में देखा।
Who can believe the eyes, it seems.
What ever I saw, was in dreams.
बोले कोई हँस कर तो छिड़क देते हैं जाँ भी।
लेकिन कोई रूठे तो मनाया नहीं जाता।
If one speaks with a smile, this life is his in a while.
With one angry, I am in a fix.
Don't know how to be out of fix.
