इस मय-कदे में काम नहीं होशियार का।
O'Zauq' get away from the world, if you are aware.

सुर्मा-ए-चश्म-ए-अज़ीज़ाँ न बना मैं ऐ चर्ख़
क्या बना ख़ाक ? ग़ुबार-ए-दिल-ए-अहबाब बना।
I wasn't kohl of lover's eyes O sky !
Dirt of other's heart was only I.
मौत ने कर दिया नाचार वगर्ना इंसाँ !
है वो ख़ुदबीं कि ख़ूदा का भी न क़ायल होता।
It was death that 'd compelled man, otherwise.
He is proud, won't bother about God, otherwise.
मज़कूर तेरी बज़्म में किस का नहीं आता। पर ज़िक्र हमारा नहीं आता नहीं आता।
Who isn't in your gathering talked about.
I am the only one who isn't talked about.
क्या जाने उसे वहम है क्या मेरी तरफ़ से। जो ख़्वाब में भी रात को तन्हा नहीं आता
I know not what fear he has from my side.
Alone, at night even in dream, he doesn't glide.
साथ उसके हूँ मैं साए की मानिंद ब लेकिन।
उस पर भी जुदा हूँ कि लिपटना नहीं आता।
I am with her like a shadow, but still.
Can't embrace, so am seperate still.
दुनिया का ज़र-ओ-माल किया जमा तो क्या 'ज़ौक़' ?
कुछ फ़ायदा बे-दस्त-ए-करम उठ नहीं सकता।
O'Zauq'! You amassed world's wealth but still.
What good, you can't take it without His will.
क़िस्मत से ही लाचार हूँ ऐ 'ज़ौक़' वगर्ना।
हर फ़न में हूँ मैं ताक मुझे क्या नहीं आता
O 'Zauq' I am compelled by fate otherwise.
What don't I know, in every skill, I am wise.
ज़ाहिद शराब पीने से काफ़िर हुआ मैं क्यों ?
क्या ठेढ़ चुल्लू पानी में ईमान बह गया ?
Why did I turn faithless by drinking O priest ?
Could my faith be washed in a handful O priest ?
मुँह से बस करते न हरगिज़ ये ख़ुदा के बंदे।
गर हरीसों को ख़ुदा सारी ख़ुदाई देता।
Greedy won't say no to God on their own.
Even if universe was bestowed by His own.
तुफ़ंग-ओ-तीर तो ज़ाहिर न था कुछ पास क़ातिल के।
इलाही फिर जो दिल पर ताक कर मारा तो क्या मारा ?
No firearm did the murderer possess.
What did he aim at my heart, make mess ?
मौत उस को याद करती है ख़ुदा जाने कि गोर।
यूँ तेरा बीमार-ए-ग़म जो हिचकियाँ लेने लगा।
God knows, what asked for him, God or grave ?
Hiccups started for your grief stricken knave !
रहता है अपना इश्क़ में यूँ दिल से मशवरा।
जिस तरह आश्ना से करे आश्ना सलाह।
I refer in love to my heart this way.
As one lover wants the other to say.
आदमीयत और शै है इल्म है कुछ और चीज़।
कितना तोते को पढ़ाया पर वो हैवाँ ही रहा।
Learning is one thing another human to be.
A parrot can be trained but will never a human be.
हम ऐसे साहिब-ए-इस्मत परी पैकर के आशिक हैं ।
नमाज़ें पढ़ती हैं हूरें हमेशा जिसके दिमन पर।
I am in love with so dignified
beauty of a gem.
Houries offer prayers on the. stretch of her hem.
दिल को रफ़ीक़ इश्क़ में अपना समझ न 'ज़ौक़'।
टल जाएगा ये अपनी बला तुझ पे टाल के।
O 'Zauq' don't consider in love, friend your heart.
He will hand over all ill wills to you and then part.
दिखा न जोश-ओ-ख़रोश इतना ज़ोर पर चढ़ कर।
गए जहान में दरिया बहुत उतर चढ़ कर।
Don't show so much passion in excited way.
Many streams peaked and ebbed that way.
कहा पतंगे ने ये दार-ए-शम'अ पर चढ़ कर।
"अजब मज़ा है जो मर ले किसी के सर चढ़ कर"।
Fire worm said it on gallows of flame.
"It's a pleasure to die at peak of fame".
बजा कहे जिसे आलम उसे बजा समझो।
ज़ुबान - ए-ख़ल्क़ को नक़्क़ार-ए-ख़ुदा समझो।
You take it for right, when the world says so.
Voice of people is voice of God think so.
नहीं है कम ज़र-ए-ख़ालिस से ज़रदी-ए-रुख़सार।
तुम ऐसे इश्क़ को ऐ 'ज़ौक़' कीमिया समझो।
Yellow of cheeks is not lesser than real gold.
O 'Zauq' such a love is called crafted gold.
कब हक़परस्त ज़ाहिद - ए-जन्नत-परस्त है।
हूरों पे मर रहा है ये शहवतपरस्त है।
Priest believes not on truth but on heaven.
He longs for Houries, he is just sex-raven.
याँ लब पे लाख लाख सख़ुन इज़्तराब
में।
वाँ एक ख़ामुशी तेरी सब के जवाब में।
Very many passionate words on the lips of all.
Your silence alone covers answers for all.
लाई हयात आए, क़ज़ा ले चली चले।
अपनी ख़ुशी न आए न अपनी ख़ुशी चले।
We were brought by birth, by death taken away
Neither came by sweet will, nor left that way.
गुल भला कुछ तो बहारें ऐ सबा ! दिखला गए।
हसरत उन ग़ुन्चों पे है जो बिन खिले मुरझा गए ।
The flowers bloomed and showed their glory O breeze !
I am sad for shriveled buds, who unbloomed left crease.
ऐ शम'अ तेरी उम्र-ए-तबीई है एक रात।
रोकर गुज़ार या इसे हँस कर गुज़ार दे।
O candle your life span is just one night.
You may spend with smile or weep outright.
