किस तरफ़ आग लगाना है हवा जानती है

ज़रा ठहरो कहाँ जाते हो दरिया देखने को

मगर वो कहते हैं ये दास्तान कुछ कम है

मेरे युग में नहीं ख़्वाब-ए-जवानी माँगने वाले

अब समझ लेते हैं मीठे लफ़्ज़ की कड़वाहटें 

हो गया है ज़िंदगी का तजरबा थोड़ा बहुत  

Now I can assess bitterness of words so sweet. 

I have had some experience of life and so neat. 

दिन भी डूबा कि नहीं ये मुझे मालूम नहीं 

जिस जगह बुझ गए आँखों के दिए रात हुई 

I know not whether the day is still over or not. 

Where eye lamps got extinguished, that's night spot.
