You appear to talk with me. 

When all have ceased to be. 

तुम्हारी आँखों की तौहीन है ज़रा सोचो 

तुम्हारा चाहने वाला शराब पीता है 

..... मुनव्वर राना..... 

It's an insult of your eyes, just think. 

One who loves you, needs a drink! 

कुछ भी बचा न कहने को हर बात हो गई 

आओ कहीं शराब पिएँ रात हो गई 

..... निदा फ़ाज़ली..... 

Nothing is there to say, all the talks are over. 

Let's go and drink somewhere, day is over. 

यहाँ लिबास की क़ीमत है आदमी की नहीं 

मुझे गिलास बड़े दे शराब कम कर दे 

..... बशीर बद्र..... 

Not man but dress is valued here as treasure. 

Give me in a big glass, cut the wine  in measure. 

तेरा इमाम बे-हुज़ूर तेरी नमाज़ बे-सुरूर 

ऐसी नमाज़ से गुज़र ऐसे इमाम से गुज़र

Neither leadership is there, not intoxicating is prayer. 

Bypass such leadership, bypass such a prayer. 

फ़स्ल-ए-बहार आई पियो सूफ़ियो शराब 

बस हो चुकी नमाज़ मुसल्ला उठाइए 

..... हैदर अली आतिश..... 

It's spring time, O hermits! Now drink wine. 

Enough of prayer time, fold mat pristine. 

जो मैं सर-ब-सज्दा हुआ कभी तो ज़मीं से आने लगी सदा 

तिरा दिल तो है सनम-आश्ना तुझे क्या मिलेगा नमाज़ में..... इक़बाल..... 

When my head was prayer- bound, a voice came from ground. 

Your heart is idol-bound, what  in prayer, can there be found? 

मय-कशों में न कोई मुझ सा नमाज़ी होगा 

दर-ए-मय-ख़ाना पे बिछता है मुसल्ला अपना..... आग़ा अकबराबादी..... 

Among drunkards, none can 

match me in prayer. 

Even in tavern, is spread out

 my mat of prayer. 

मुसल्ला रखते हैं सहबा-ओ-जाम रखते हैं 

फ़क़ीर सब के लिए इंतिज़ाम रखते हैं 

..... वाली आसी..... 

There's a prayer-mat, there are cups and wine. 

For each one, mystics  have an arrangement, fine! 

उड़ने दो परिंदों को अभी शोख़ हवा में 

फिर लौट के बचपन के ज़माने नहीं आते 

..... बशीर बद्र..... 

Let  birds keep flying in wind so bold. 

Childhood days don't return to hold. 

दुआएँ याद करा दी गई थीं बचपन में 

सो ज़ख़्म खाते रहे और दुआ दिए गए हम..... इफ़्तिख़ार आरिफ़.....

In childhood, many prayers were battered in mind. 

I have been wounded, but prayer was there in mind. 

मेरा बचपन भी साथ ले आया 

गाँव से जब भी आ गया कोई 

..... कैफ़ी आज़मी..... 

He brought my childhood back. 

When one came from village track. 

असीर-ए-पंजा-ए-अहद-ए-शबाब कर के मुझे 

कहाँ गया मिरा बचपन ख़राब कर के मुझे..... मुज़्तर ख़ैराबादी..... 

Binding me within the fist of youth. 

Where's  gone my childhood uncouth? 

वो न आएगा हमें मालूम था इस शाम भी 

इंतिज़ार उस का मगर कुछ सोच कर करते रहे..... परवीन शाकिर....

I knew that he won't come this  eve, still. 

With some thought, I kept on waiting still. 

मैं सोचता हूँ बहुत ज़िंदगी के बारे में 

ये ज़िंदगी भी मुझे सोच कर न रह जाए
