गाहे गाहे की मुलाक़ात ही अच्छी है 'अमीर'
क़द्र खो देता है हर रोज़ का आना जाना
O 'Ameer' occasional meetings are fine.
Daily visits lose worth of thine.
वस्ल का दिन और इतना मुख़्तसर
दिन गिने जाते थे इस दिन के लिए
It's the day of meeting and so small.
I was counting days for it after all.
उल्फ़त में बराबर है वफ़ा हो कि जफ़ा हो
हर बात में लज़्ज़त है अगर दिल में मज़ा हो
Being loyal or disloyal in love are the same.
Every thing is pleasant in this heart game.
आफ़त तो है वो नाज़ भी अंदाज़ भी लेकिन
मरता हूँ मैं जिस पर वो अदा और ही कुछ है
Her poise and style is trouble all the while.
But what I die for, is something above par.
ख़ंजर चले किसी पे तड़पते हैं हम 'अमीर'
सारे जहाँ का दर्द हमारे जिगर में है
Whoever gets the daggers, it's 'Ameer who flutters.
The whole world ache, my heart is to take.
तीर खाने की हवस है तो जिगर पैदा कर
सरफ़रोशी की तमन्ना है तो सर पैदा कर
If you have arrow lust, such heart is a must.
For the bravery desire, set your head on fire.
कौन सी जा है जहाँ जल्वा-ए-माशूक़ नहीं
शौक़-ए-दीदार अगर है तो नज़र पैदा कर
Which is that place, where her glimpse you can't trace.
Having desire of her view, that vision is long due.
हँस के फ़रमाते हैं वो देख के हालत मेरी
क्यूँ तुम आसान समझते थे मोहब्बत मेरी
She smiles and says looking at my state.
Why did you think my love was easy O mate?
हुए नामवर बे-निशाँ कैसे कैसे
ज़मीं खा गई आसमाँ कैसे कैसे
Many famous persons were left with no trace
The earth engulfed hi-fi people of grace.
माँग लूँ तुझ से तुझी को कि सभी कुछ मिल जाए
सौ सवालों से यही एक सवाल अच्छा है
Why not beg you from you to get all.
Instead of many things, it's a good call.
अभी आए अभी जाते हो जल्दी क्या है दम ले लो
न छेड़ूँगा मैं जैसी चाहे तुम मुझ से क़सम ले लो
You have come, ready to go, stay, have some rest.
I won't tease you, am ready to pledge my best.
किसी रईस की महफ़िल का ज़िक्र ही क्या है
ख़ुदा के घर भी न जाएँगे बिन बुलाए हुए
What to talk about meeting with some rich man?
:Without invitation, I won't visit His house if I can!
आँखें दिखलाते हो जोबन तो दिखाओ साहब
वो अलग बाँध के रक्खा है जो माल अच्छा है
Eyea show anger alone, let see boobs zone. .
You have kept tied , good goods inside.
इस शे’र में ग़ज़ब का चोंचाल है। यही चोंचाल उर्दू ग़ज़ल की परम्परा की विशेषता है। आँखें दिखाना द्विअर्थी है। एक मायनी तो ये है कि केवल आँखें दिखाते हो अर्थात मात्र आँखों का नज़ारा कराते हो। दूसरा अर्थ यह है कि केवल ग़ुस्सा करते हो क्योंकि आँखें दिखाना मुहावरा है और इसके कई मायनी हैं जैसे घूर कर देखना, क्रोध की दृष्टि से देखना, घुड़की देना, इशारा व संकेत करना, आँखों ही आँखों में बातें करना। मगर शे’र में जो व्यंग्य दिखाई देता है उसके अनुसार आँखें दिखाने को घुड़की देने अर्थात क्रोध से देखना ही समझना चाहिए।
जोबन के कई अर्थ हैं जैसे सुंदरता, चढ़ती जवानी, स्त्री की छाती अर्थात स्तन। जब ये कहा कि वो अलग बाँध के रखा है जो माल अच्छा है तो तात्पर्य स्तन से ही है क्योंकि जब आँख दिखाई तो स्पष्ट है कि चेहरा भी दिखाया और जब आमने सामने खड़े हो गए तो जैसे चढ़ती जवानी का नज़ारा भी हुआ। अगर कोई चीज़ जो शायर की जानकारी के अनुसार अच्छा माल है और जिसे बाँध के रखा गया है तो वह प्रियतम का स्तन ही हो सकता है।
इस तरह शे’र का अर्थ यह होता है कि तुम मुझे केवल ग़ुस्से से आँखें दिखाते हो और जो चीज़ देखने का मैं इच्छुक हूँ उसे अलग से बाँध कर रखा है।
शफ़क़ सुपुरी
फ़िराक़-ए-यार ने बेचैन मुझ को रात भर रक्खा
कभी तकिया इधर रक्खा कभी तकिया उधर रक्खा
Separation from my love kept agitated whole night.
Kept the pillow this way or that to set it ali right.
'अमीर' अब हिचकियाँ आने लगी हैं
कहीं मैं याद फ़रमाया गया हूँ
O'Ameer'! Hiccups are on the move.
Someone remembers me, it's to prove.
जो चाहिए सो माँगिये अल्लाह से 'अमीर'
उस दर पे आबरू नहीं जाती सवाल से
O 'Ameer' !, Ask anything from Him that you need.
At His door, dignity isn't lost this way indeed.
जवाँ होने लगे जब वो तो हम से कर लिया पर्दा
हया यक-लख़्त आई और शबाब आहिस्ता आहिस्ता
When she gained youth, veil parted us apart.
She was suddenly shy, youth was slow to start.
कौन उठाएगा तुम्हारी ये जफ़ा मेरे बाद
याद आएगी बहुत मेरी वफ़ा मेरे बाद
Who will bear your disloyalty after I 've gone?
You will remember my loyalty after I 've gone.
हटाओ आइना उम्मीद-वार हम भी हैं
तुम्हारे देखने वालों में यार हम भी हैं
Remove the mirror, me too is a candidate.
Those who want your view, me too am O mate!
अल्लाह-रे सादगी नहीं इतनी उन्हें ख़बर
मय्यत पे आ के पूछते हैं इन को क्या हुआ
What simplicity to show, she doesn't even know.
She asks my corpse, what happened to you at source?
मुश्किल बहुत पड़ेगी बराबर की चोट है
आईना देखिएगा ज़रा देख-भाल के
It will be hard to feel, it's an equal deal.
Looking mirror my dear , be cautious, 've fear.
मानी हैं मैं ने सैकड़ों बातें तमाम उम्र
आज आप एक बात मिरी मान जाइए
I have accepted many things that you said life long.

फिर बैठे बैठे वादा-ए-वस्ल उस ने कर लिया
फिर उठ खड़ा हुआ वही रोग इंतिज़ार का
While sitting by the way, she promised to meet one day.
Same waiting disease, again started with such ease.
वो दुश्मनी से देखते हैं देखते तो हैं
मैं शाद हूँ कि हूँ तो किसी की निगाह में
With enmity she looks, but at least she looks.
I am happy 'n at ease,to be in her eyes please.
तीर पर तीर लगाओ तुम्हें डर किस का है
सीना किस का है मिरी जान जिगर किस का है
Keep shooting arrows dear, you don't have to fear.
My love whose is the chest, whose heart is the best?
सरकती जाए है रुख़ से नक़ाब आहिस्ता आहिस्ता
निकलता आ रहा है आफ़्ताब आहिस्ता आहिस्ता
The veil is sliding slowly from the face.
The sun is shining slowly with grace.
शाएर को मस्त करती है तारीफ़-ए-शेर 'अमीर'
सौ बोतलों का नश्शा है इस वाह वाह में
'Ameer' the poet is intoxicated when a couplet is praised.
There is hundred bottle arrogance with praise voice raised.
ख़ुदा ने नेक सूरत दी तो सीखो नेक बातें भी
बुरे होते हो अच्छे हो के ये क्या बद-ज़बानी है
God's given a good face, learn good things as well.
You are good but sound bad due to ill sound spell.
पहलू में मेरे दिल को न ऐ दर्द कर तलाश
मुद्दत हुई ग़रीब वतन से निकल गया
Don't search for heart in my chest O pain.
It's long since that poor has left in vain.
बोसा लिया जो उस लब-ए-शीरीं का मर गए
दी जान हम ने चश्मा-ए-आब-ए-हयात पर
I breathed my last kissing lips so sweet.
I died near bank of nectar waters neat.
अल्लाह-रे उस गुल की कलाई की नज़ाकत
बल खा गई जब बोझ पड़ा रंग-ए-हिना का
O God ! How delicate is her flowery wrist.
With weight of henna colour, it got a twist.
मिरा ख़त उस ने पढ़ा पढ़ के नामा-बर से कहा
यही जवाब है इस का कोई जवाब नहीं
My letter she read, then to messenger said. The answer to it, is there's no answer to it.
आया न एक बार अयादत को तू मसीह
सौ बार मैं फ़रेब से बीमार हो चुका
To enquire about welfare, my lover didn't arrive .
The deceit of being sick many times didn't thrive.
बाद मरने के भी छोड़ी न रिफ़ाक़त मेरी
मेरी तुर्बत से लगी बैठी है हसरत मेरी
It didn't leave my friendship even after death.
Tugged with grave, my desire takes breath.
उस की हसरत है जिसे दिल से मिटा भी न सकूँ
ढूँडने उस को चला हूँ जिसे पा भी न सकूँ
I long for her whom I can't erase from heart.
I search for the one not available from start.
सारी दुनिया के हैं वो मेरे सिवा
मैं ने दुनिया छोड़ दी जिन के लिए
But for me, she belongs to whole world.
She is one for whom I left whole world.
शब-ए-फ़ुर्क़त का जागा हूँ फ़रिश्तो अब तो सोने दो
कभी फ़ुर्सत में कर लेना हिसाब आहिस्ता आहिस्ता
I am awake since parting night, angels let me sleep.
Slowly at leisure time, you can my accounts keep.
आहों से सोज़-ए-इश्क़ मिटाया न जाएगा
फूँकों से ये चराग़ बुझाया न जाएगा
Sighs can't extinguish the fire of love.
Wind blows can't put out lamp of love.
ज़ब्त देखो उधर निगाह न की
मर गए मरते मरते आह न की
Look at my control, I didn't see even once.
I died but didn't even come to sigh stance.
बाक़ी न दिल में कोई भी या रब हवस रहे
चौदह बरस के सिन में वो लाखों बरस रहे
O God let no desire remain in the heart.
She stays fourteen years in lac year part.
समझता हूँ सबब काफ़िर तिरे आँसू निकलने का
धुआँ लगता है आँखों में किसी के दिल के जलने का
O infidel ! I know why you are shedding tears
Smoke hurts eyes when some heart sears.
ये भी इक बात है अदावत की
रोज़ा रक्खा जो हम ने दावत की
This is how the enmity can be retained.
Invited for feast, a fast she maintained.
है जवानी ख़ुद जवानी का सिंगार
सादगी गहना है इस सिन के लिए
Youth is decoration of youth itself.

तेरी मस्जिद में वाइज़ ख़ास हैं औक़ात रहमत के
हमारे मय-कदे में रात दिन रहमत बरसती है
O priest in your mosque are limited times for grace.
In our tavern, day 'n night there's shower of grace.
लुत्फ़ आने लगा जफ़ाओं में
वो कहीं मेहरबाँ न हो जाए
Now in her faithlessness, I get pleasure.
O God! Let her not be kind in measure.
अच्छे ईसा हो मरीज़ों का ख़याल अच्छा है
हम मरे जाते हैं तुम कहते हो हाल अच्छा है
What a Christ,about patients you take good care!
I 'm dying' n you say that I am well in your care!
वस्ल हो जाए यहीं हश्र में क्या रक्खा है
आज की बात को क्यूँ कल पे उठा रक्खा है
Let meeting be here what's it on doom' 's day.

किस ढिटाई से वो दिल छीन के कहते हैं 'अमीर'
वो मिरा घर है रहे जिस में मोहब्बत मेरी

आबरू शर्त है इंसाँ के लिए दुनिया में

Prestige is essential in world for a man.

इन शोख़ हसीनों पे जो माइल नहीं होता
कुछ और बला होती है वो दिल नहीं होता
One who isn't attracted towards damsels in style.
Is an impish structure, not heart in a while
मस्जिद में बुलाते हैं हमें ज़ाहिद-ए-ना-फ़हम
होता कुछ अगर होश तो मय-ख़ाने न जाते
Priest is unwise, gives me a mosque call
If I had sense, would go to tavern after all.
मुद्दत में शाम-ए-वस्ल हुई है मुझे नसीब
दो-चार साल तक तो इलाही सहर न हो
It's after a long time, I have her meeting time.
For years two or four, let morning be no more.
शौक़ कहता है पहुँच जाऊँ मैं अब काबे में जल्द
राह में बुत-ख़ाना पड़ता है इलाही क्या करूँ
even she calls me bad.

The temple is on way, O God what to say?
नावक-ए-नाज़ से मुश्किल है बचाना दिल का
दर्द उठ उठ के बताता है ठिकाना दिल का
From arrow with style 'n care, it's hard for heart to spare.
Pain so often rises in heart and shows the targeted part.
वाए क़िस्मत वो भी कहते हैं बुरा
हम बुरे सब से हुए जिन के लिए
O fate! I got her bad call.
For whom I was bad to all.
यार पहलू में है तन्हाई है कह दो निकले
आज क्यूँ दिल में छुपी बैठी है हसरत मेरी
By the side is my lover, there is silence cover.
Why is it hidden in heart, O desire play the part.
कबाब-ए-सीख़ हैं हम करवटें हर-सू बदलते हैं
जल उठता है जो ये पहलू तो वो पहलू बदलते हैं
Roasting mincemeat, in a pin on heat, I turn sides now and then.
When one side sings, on shingles it clings, it's often turned then.
मिला कर ख़ाक में भी हाए शर्म उन की नहीं जाती
निगह नीची किए वो सामने मदफ़न के बैठे हैं
Even after razing me to dust, she remains shy as a must.
She is sitting by my grave, eyes are downcast as a knave.
मिली है दुख़्तर-ए-रज़ लड़-झगड़ के क़ाज़ी से
जिहाद कर के जो औरत मिले हराम नहीं
I got 'daughter of grapes' after tussle with the ojudge.
Woman won in a crusade is for keeps, not to fudge.
हाथ रख कर मेरे सीने पे जिगर थाम लिया
तुम ने इस वक़्त तो गिरता हुआ घर थाम लिया
Keeping your hand on my chest, you put heart to rest.
This time you could keep, my home from being a heap.
वही रह जाते हैं ज़बानों पर
शेर जो इंतिख़ाब होते हैं
Only those couplets which are select.
Stay in memory, with tongue connect.
तूल-ए-शब-ए-फ़िराक़ का क़िस्सा न पूछिए
महशर तलक कहूँ मैं अगर मुख़्तसर कहूँ
Don't ask about it's plight, long drawn tale of parting night.
Even if I narrate in brief, till doom will stretch it's fief.
बातें नासेह की सुनीं यार के नज़्ज़ारे किए
आँखें जन्नत में रहीं कान जहन्नम में रहे
I listened to the priest, eyes set on lover as a feast.
While eyes were in paradise, ears were in hell, no surprise.
पुतलियाँ तक भी तो फिर जाती हैं देखो दम-ए-नज़अ
वक़्त पड़ता है तो सब आँख चुरा जाते हैं
Even the pupils turn, when time is last.
All turn corners, as good times are past.
सादा समझो न इन्हें रहने दो दीवाँ में 'अमीर'
यही अशआर ज़बानों पे हैं रहने वाले
O 'Ameer' let these stay in collection, these may seem easy in reflection.
These couplets are there to survive, in language and tongues 'll thrive.
पहले तो मुझे कहा निकालो
फिर बोले ग़रीब है बुला लो
You just turn him out at first did he shout.
Then I am poor, he said, called, inhibition shed
गिरह से कुछ नहीं जाता है पी भी ले ज़ाहिद
मिले जो मुफ़्त तो क़ाज़ी को भी हराम नहीं
You aren't paying O priest! Well sip it at least. If It's available for free, even the judges agree
ख़्वाब में आँखें जो तलवों से मलीं
बोले उफ़ उफ़ पाँव मेरा छिल गया
When quashing eyes in dream with sole.
Says my feet are scratched as a whole.
सीधी निगाह में तिरी हैं तीर के ख़्वास
तिरछी ज़रा हुई तो हैं शमशीर के ख़्वास
आशिक़ का बाँकपन न गया बाद-ए-मर्ग भी
तख़्ते पे ग़ुस्ल के जो लिटाया अकड़ गया
Even after death lover remained elegant.
As laid on plank for bath ,streak was present.
देख ले बुलबुल ओ परवाना की बेताबी को
हिज्र अच्छा न हसीनों का विसाल अच्छा है
Look at the nightingale and moth ''s haste.
Meeting and parting with cutes is a waste.
अभी कमसिन हैं ज़िदें भी हैं निराली उन की
इस पे मचले हैं कि हम दर्द-ए-जिगर देखेंगे
She is too young, whims strange, far flung.
Well she is adamant,to see heart ache, it's extent.
बाग़बाँ कलियाँ हों हल्के रंग की
भेजनी हैं एक कम-सिन के लिए
O gardener pluck buds of a light shade
These are for cute dame of young grade.
सौ शेर एक जलसे में कहते थे हम 'अमीर'
जब तक न शेर कहने का हम को शुऊर था
O 'Ameer' I'd recite hundred couplets at a go.
When elegant recitation was not on show.
वो फूल सर चढ़ा जो चमन से निकल गया
इज़्ज़त उसे मिली जो वतन से निकल गया
A flower that quit the garden, was high grade
He became famous, who left nation
कहते हो कि हमदर्द किसी का नहीं सुनते
मैं ने तो रक़ीबों से सुना और ही कुछ है
You tell me not listening to anyone ''s pain.
I heard rivals saying something else again.
शब-ए-विसाल बहुत कम है आसमाँ से कहो
कि जोड़ दे कोई टुकड़ा शब-ए-जुदाई का
Meeting night is so short, tell time overhead.
A part of parting night to be annexed instead.
व्याख्या
शब-ए-विसाल के सम्बंध से शब-ए-जुदाई ने बहुत ही दिलचस्प अंतर्विरोध पैदा किया है और दरअसल इस शे’र का विषय इसी अंतर्विरोध पर आधारित है। मिलन की रात के संक्षिप्त होने का शिकवा उर्दू ग़ज़ल की परम्परा में शामिल है। इसी तरह से शायरों ने जुदाई की रात या शब-ए-फ़िराक़ के दीर्घ होने की शिकायत भी की है। इस शे’र में शब-ए-विसाल यानी मुलाक़ात, शब-ए-फ़िराक़ अर्थात जुदाई के समानुपात में 'बहुत कम', 'जोड़ दे कोई टुकड़ा’ और आसमान के संयोजन ने सुंदरता पैदा की है। आसमान का प्रयोग उर्दू शायरों ने बहुत सी चीज़ों के रूपक या प्रतीक के रूप में किया है। उदाहरण के लिए आसमान को तक़दीर, ख़ुदा(ईश्वर) और समय आदि के रूपकों के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया गया है। इस शे’र में आसमान वास्तव में समय का एक रूपक है।
शायर संबोधित से कहता है कि महबूब से मुलाक़ात की रात लम्बाई की दृष्टि से बहुत छोटी है। अर्थात जिस रात महबूब से मिलन होता है वो कुछ क्षणों में गुज़र जाती है। इसके मुक़ाबले में महबूब से जुदाई की रात बहुत लम्बी होती है। यानी जब महबूब दूर हो तो रात किसी तरह कटती ही नहीं। इसलिए ऐ संबोधित, तुम समय से कहो कि वो विरह की रात से कोई हिस्सा काट के मिलन की रात में मिला दे ताकि आशिक़ अपने महबूब की निकटता से पूरी तरह आनंदित होसके।
शफ़क़ सुपुरी
न वाइज़ हज्व कर एक दिन तो इस दुनिया से जाना है
अरे मुँह साक़ी-ए-कौसर को भी आख़िर दिखाना है
O preacher don't call it bad, one day you will be dead.
You have to face barmaid of heavenly drinks instead.
अपनी महफ़िल से अबस हम को उठाते हैं हुज़ूर
चुपके बैठे हैं अलग आप का क्या लेते हैं
You evict me for no reason from meeting.
I ask for nothing and am separately sitting.
रहा ख़्वाब में उन से शब भर विसाल
मिरे बख़्त जागे मैं सोया किया
While in dream, I met her whole night.
My fate was awake, as I slept tight.
शाख़ों से बर्ग-ए-गुल नहीं झड़ते हैं बाग़ में
ज़ेवर उतर रहा है उरूस-ए-बहार का
It's not that flower petals in garden are shed.
Ornaments of spring bride are laid down on bed.
अल्लाह-री नज़ाकत-ए-जानाँ कि शेर में
मज़मूँ बंधा कमर का तो दर्द-ए-कमर हुआ
O God! What delicacy that in a couplet as I tell.
About the waist and there's waist ache spell
सब हसीं हैं ज़ाहिदों को ना-पसंद
अब कोई हूर आएगी उन के लिए
Preachers dislike each beautiful dame.
Some houries for them 'll come to claim.
ज़ाहिद उमीद-ए-रहमत-ए-हक़ और हज्व-ए-मय
पहले शराब पी के गुनाह-गार भी तो हो
O preacher! You blame wine and ask for His grace.
First drink, be a sinner and then earn your place.
पूछा न जाएगा जो वतन से निकल गया
बे-कार है जो दाँत दहन से निकल गया
If you leave motherland, none will take care.
Tooth extracted from mouth is useless ware.
काबा भी हम गए न गया पर बुतों का इश्क़
इस दर्द की ख़ुदा के भी घर में दवा नहीं
I visited Kaaba but love for the idols remained.
Even at God's home, no relief for pain
was gained.
ख़ून-ए-नाहक़ कहीं छुपता है छुपाए से 'अमीर'
क्यूँ मिरी लाश पे बैठे हैं वो दामन डाले
O'Ameer'! Undeserved murder can't be kept concealed.
Why she sits by my corpse, to keep it skirt concealed
ये कहूँगा ये कहूँगा ये अभी कहaते हो
सामने उन के भी जब हज़रत-ए-दिल याद रहे
I'll say this and that, you are saying it now.
O heart! Remember it before her somehow.
मौक़ूफ़ जुर्म ही पे करम का ज़ुहूर था
बंदे अगर क़ुसूर न करते क़ुसूर था
His grace was dependant on crime.
Not committing the crime was crime.
वस्ल में ख़ाली हुई ग़ैर से महफ़िल तो क्या
शर्म भी जाए तो मैं जानूँ कि तन्हाई हुई
What if the rival left group for me to meet.
If shyness also leaves, loneliness 'd be neat.
गर्द उड़ी आशिक़ की तुर्बत से तो झुँझला कर कहा
वाह सर चढ़ने लगी पाँव की ठुकराई हुई
When soil from lover's grave hovered, she said.
What a surprise, foot trodden has risen to head.
हम जो पहुँचे तो लब-ए-गोर से आई ये सदा
आइए आइए हज़रत बहुत आज़ाद रहे
When I arrived,it sounded from a grave side.
Come, come you were free for long outside.
ख़ुशामद ऐ दिल-ए-बेताब इस तस्वीर की कब तक
ये बोला चाहती है पर न बोलेगी न बोली है
How long would you plead before her photo O heart?
It wants to speak but hasn't nor 'd speak from start.
छेड़ देखो मिरी मय्यत पे जो आए तो कहा

आए बुत-ख़ाने से काबे को तो क्या भर पाया
जा पड़े थे तो वहीं हम को पड़ा रहना था
I came from temple to Kaaba, what gain?
If I had gone there, I could then remain.
है वसिय्यत कि कफ़न मुझ को इसी का देना
हाथ आ जाए जो उतरा हुआ पैराहन-ए-दोस्त

शैख़ कहता है बरहमन को बरहमन उस को सख़्त
काबा ओ बुत-ख़ाना में पत्थर है पत्थर का जवाब

ख़ुश्क सेरों तन-ए-शाएर का लहू होता है
तब नज़र आती है इक मिस्रा-ए-तर की सूरत

नब्ज़-ए-बीमार जो ऐ रश्क-ए-मसीहा देखी
आज क्या आप ने जाती हुई दुनिया देखी

सारा पर्दा है दुई का जो ये पर्दा उठ जाए
गर्दन-ए-शैख़ में ज़ुन्नार बरहमन डाले

मिसी छूटी हुई सूखे हुए होंट
ये सूरत और आप आते हैं घर से
Erased is the shiner and dried out are lips.
You come from home like that, giving me tips.
काबा-ए-रुख़ की तरफ़ पढ़नी है आँखों से नमाज़
चाहिए गिर्द-ए-नज़र बहर-ए-तयम्मुम मुझ को
My eyes 'll pay obeyance to her Kaaba like face.
I need to set vision on that religious watery grace.
फ़ुर्क़त में मुँह लपेटे मैं इस तरह पड़ा हूँ
जिस तरह कोई मुर्दा लिपटा हुआ कफ़न में
Separated, I am lying down in this way.
As a carcass is covered in shroud to lay.
लाए कहाँ से उस रुख़-ए-रौशन की आब-ओ-ताब
बेजा नहीं जो शर्म से है आब आब शम्अ
Wherefrom to get the glow of her lovely face? Lamp is shy and watered down beyond trace.
जिस ग़ुंचा-लब को छेड़ दिया ख़ंदा-ज़न हुआ
जिस गुल पे हम ने रंग जमाया चमन हुआ
When I tease a bud-lip, it smiles all the way.
When I decorate flower, garden is on display.
अमीर' जाते हो बुत-ख़ाने की ज़ियारत को
पड़ेगा राह में का'बा सलाम कर लेना
'Ameer' you are on temple pilgrimage.
Kaaba is on way, there too pay homage.
तरफ़-ए-काबा न जा हज के लिए नादाँ है
ग़ौर कर देख कि है ख़ाना-ए-दिल मस्कन-ए-दोस्त
Don't go towards Kaaba, for pilgrimage you are innocent.
Carefully watch that friend 's house is where heart is bent.
रोज़-ओ-शब याँ एक सी है रौशनी
दिल के दाग़ों का चराग़ाँ और है
It's equally illuminated during days and nights.

चार झोंके जब चले ठंडे चमन याद आ गया
सर्द आहें जब किसी ने लीं वतन याद आ गया

हो गया बंद दर-ए-मै-कदा क्या क़हर हुआ
शौक़-ए-पा-बोस-ए-हसीनाँ जो तुझे था ऐ दिल

जब कहीं दो गज़ ज़मीं देखी ख़ुदी समझा मैं गोर
जब नई दो चादरें देखीं कफ़न याद आ गया
Seeing two yards of soil dug, I thought it was grave.

ज़ानू पर 'अमीर' सर को रक्खे
पहरों गुज़रे कि रो रहे हैं

बहार झूल रही है ख़ुशी के झूलों में
There's spring in branches and flowers with breeze.

जी लगे आप का ऐसा कि कभी जी न भरे
दिल लगा कर जो सुनें आप फ़साना दिल का
You will be satisfied in overwhelming extent.

घर किसी का गिर पड़ा घर बन गया मज़दूर का
